Greetings Reader!!!
What a week of devastating weather that the country went through this past week.
I finally got to experience the 'Snowmegeddon' affect that I had heard about in Atlanta.
My God! Terrible!
If you, your family or loved ones were impacted in anyway, My Prayers to you and them.
With that said, let's get into this weeks message.
I have my morning brew and I hope that you are able to enjoy a morning beverage with me today.
I don't know if you've noticed, but I've decided to streamline the weekly newsletter into one article...
... One article expressing One Idea, Thought or Message that I want to get over to you.
I may add one or two videos as a supplement or to reinforce the main idea, But No More Than That!
I want to practice what I preach about Simplifying Life & Business.
So, gone are the 3, 4, 5 articles with a bunch of videos.
I just want to give you a bite sized, yet potent, message to digest and implement.
My advise and counsel to you is that you think of doing the same for your business and clients.
As we've said in previous issues, the world is full of Uncertainty, Confusion, & Complexity so...
... Simple & Potent is the Antidote!
Don't Be That Monkey!
I want to quickly talk to you about a fascinating story that I was taught almost 30 years ago.
The story is often used as a metaphor for how attachment to certain things—whether it's habits, beliefs, or possessions—can hold us back.
The story of The Monkey Trap offers a vivid picture of how holding onto things that no longer serve us can keep us stuck in place.
Hunters in different regions of the world use a simple but effective method to trap monkeys. They take a hollowed-out object, like a coconut or a jar, and place a treat such as nuts, fruit, or rice inside it.
The monkey, driven by desire, reaches in, grabs the treat, and just like that finds itself trapped. Why?
Because the monkey refuses to let go of the treat, even when doing so would mean freedom. The monkey’s attachment to the object becomes its prison.
The opening is just wide enough for the monkey to slide its hand in, but once it grabs the treat, its clenched fist is too large to pull back out.
This story is a metaphor for the attachments we hold on to in our own lives.
Whether it’s a fear of change, a limiting belief, past failures, or even a relationship that’s no longer serving us, many of us are unwilling to let go of things that keep us stuck.
We cling to the comfort of familiarity, even when it’s preventing us from moving forward.
But just like the monkey, we have a choice. We can hold onto what's comfortable and secure, or we can open our hands and release it to embrace something greater.
Lessons From The Monkey Trap!
- Attachment to the Past: If we stay attached to past failures or old ways of thinking, we’re limiting our ability to evolve. We’re stuck in a loop, afraid to try something new or different. Letting go of these attachments opens the door to new opportunities.
- Fear of Change: Change is inevitable. It's the only constant. But often, it's the fear of the unknown that traps us. If we refuse to let go of outdated methods, we stay stuck in our comfort zone.
- Clinging to Things, People, or Ideas: Sometimes, we hold on to material possessions or relationships that no longer serve us. Whether it’s a cluttered home or a toxic relationship, these attachments can weigh us down. When we let go, we make space for new things... things that align with our growth & development.
The Key to Freedom
The Monkey Trap teaches us that freedom comes not from acquiring more or holding onto what we already have, but by letting go of what no longer serves us.
It’s only when we release our grip that we can escape the trap and move forward.
So, what are you holding onto that’s keeping you stuck?
What’s your “treat” in the trap?
Take a moment to reflect, and consider what you need to let go of to move forward.
Remember: In business, in life, and in relationships, growth comes from the ability to release, grow, and evolve. The key to freedom isn’t in holding tight; it’s in letting go.
How To Catch A Monkey
Here is a visual illustration. I don't want to be insensitive, but I want to reinforce the point!
